Topic: [OK] more DNS fun

One thing I did when I bought my domain from gandi.net is set up a mail account within that domain.

I'm now thinking that if tuxfamily.net is managing my domain, that any mail sent to that mail account is probably disappearing into a black hole.

Is there any way for me to have tuxfamily manage DNS with any mail still being handled by gandi.net ?

Thanks,
-Patrick

Almost true, except that the mails are refused and not accepted and silently tossed.

Everything is explained in the online documentation of your registrar: https://www.gandi.net/faq/view_question … l_settings

By the way, we are also providing mail service, but you can use gandi.net mail service if you prefer ;-)

Thanks for the pointer.

Based on this info, I've expanded the (English) Mail and DNS FAQs to clarify the options available.

:)

Most of it is picking the low-hanging fruit:
untranslated French, fotes de grammaires, etc.

I doubt I'll keep up the pace for long.

Howdy again,
Things don't seem to be working for me, and I'm not sure why...

From the DNS panel, I've got:
an MX record, priority 10 pointing to spool.mail.gandi.net

However, when I sent an Email just now to  myaccount@mumps2py.org, I got a qmail message back saying:
" Sorry, I couldn't find a mail exchanger or IP address. (#5.4.4)"

And, I also set-up three CNAME records for pop, smtp, and webmail; none of which seem to be working.

If I understand correctly; attempting to contact http://webmail.mumps2py.org/ should actually end up connecting to http://agent.mail.gandi.net/ , is that correct ?

Thanks,
-Patrick

Which is wrong, don't forget the dot at the end of the domain name, which is the mark that this is the end of the domain, in the other case it is concatened with your $ORIGIN, which is mumps2py.org here.

So, the MX you set is actually 10 mumps2py.org. -> spool.mail.gandi.net.mumps2py.org.  ;-)

I already fixed that in the panel, now you have to wait the spreading of the changement in the dns cache you are using.

Of course, because spool.mail.gandi.net.mumps2py.org. cannot be resolved.

Same problem here, I fixed those CNAME too.

Yes, but agent.mail.gandi.net.mumps2py.org. is not resolvable too ;-)

Anyway, this is a common mistake by beginners with the DNS system, mainly because we never put the dot at the end of the domain while are browsing the web, ... (Yes, we should do it).

Try: http://www.tuxfamily.org./ ;-)
EDIT: notice that the URL parser of punbb is not even able to deal with the dot at the end

Okay, Thanks! :D

I've added a note to the Tricks and Tips section of DNS/En about this.
